- Pinch of salt (for rice seasoning)

- A little black pepper (for Krabby seasoning)
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise (for Krabby seasoning)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, to make the folded kimbap, prepare your kimbap seaweed sheet. Carefully cut from the center of the seaweed sheet towards the edges in a cross shape (like cutting a pizza into quarters). This will make folding much easier later on.
Step 2
Season the cooked rice: add a pinch of salt and a little sesame oil to 1 bowl of warm rice and mix well. Spread this seasoned rice thinly over one section of the cut seaweed sheet (about a quarter of the total area). Be careful not to use too much rice, as it might cause the seaweed to tear.
Step 3
Shred the Krabby sticks finely with your fingers. In a small bowl, combine the shredded Krabby with 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise and a little black pepper. Mix gently to create a creamy filling.
Step 4
Now, let’s assemble the kimbap! Starting from the section with the rice, place the seasoned Krabby filling onto the adjacent section of the seaweed (the part without rice). Placing the fillings next to the rice, rather than directly on top, helps maintain the shape better.
Step 5
Pan-fry the 2 slices of Spam until they are golden brown. If there’s excess oil, gently pat it dry with a paper towel. Place the cooked Spam slices next to the Krabby filling, on another empty section of the seaweed.
Step 6
Finally, place the slice of cheese on the remaining empty section. The cheese will melt slightly, binding the ingredients together. If you have a special ingredient like your grandmother’s pickled perilla leaves, you can add a small amount on top of the rice at this stage. The fragrant perilla leaves will add a wonderful depth of flavor. (Optional)
Step 7
With all the fillings in place, it’s time to fold! Starting with the section covered in rice, fold the seaweed layers one by one in a counter-clockwise direction, overlapping each section like folding a fan. Fold gently to prevent the seaweed from tearing.
Step 8
Voila! Your unique folded kimbap is complete. It’s surprisingly easy to make a delicious and visually appealing meal!
Step 9
Cut the finished kimbap diagonally to reveal the beautiful layers inside. Adding the pickled perilla leaves was a stroke of genius! This homemade kimbap tastes even better than store-bought triangle kimbap. Enjoy your delicious creation!
