Main Ingredients

  • 1 bowl of Korean green peppers (Kkori peppers)
  • 1/2 can of Spam
  • 1 Tbsp minced green onion
  • 4 Tbsp minced onion
  • A little cooking oil

Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp cooking wine (Mirin)
  • 1 Tbsp fish sauce (or tuna extract)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the Korean green peppers thoroughly under running water. Trim off the stems and then slice them in half lengthwise. This helps the seasoning penetrate and speeds up the cooking process.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, slice the Spam into bite-sized pieces, about 1cm thick. You can slice it directly after opening the can.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a little cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic, minced onion, and minced green onion. Sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic. Stirring frequently will ensure even cooking.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the onions become translucent and release their sweet aroma, prepare to add the next ingredients. Fully cooking the onions will bring out their sweetness, balancing the overall flavor of the dish.

Step 4

Step 5

Add the prepared Korean green peppers, soy sauce, cooking wine, and fish sauce to the pan. Stir-fry together until the peppers are slightly softened and the seasoning starts to combine. Then, add the sliced Spam and stir-fry briefly. Avoid overcooking the Spam, as it can become dry and tough.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, drizzle in the sesame oil for a nutty aroma and sprinkle with sesame seeds to finish. Transfer the completed stir-fried Korean green peppers and Spam to a serving dish. Enjoy your delicious homemade side dish!
