Essential Ingredients- 1 bag (approx. 200g) Ggwari Gochu (Korean chili peppers)
- 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp water
Savory Seasoning- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or rice wine)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to taste)
- 1/3 Tbsp minced garlic (approx. 1 tsp)
- 1 Tbsp minced green onion
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or rice wine)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to taste)
- 1/3 Tbsp minced garlic (approx. 1 tsp)
- 1 Tbsp minced green onion
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by thoroughly washing the Ggwari Gochu peppers under running water to remove any dirt or debris. Once clean, gently snip off the stem ends. Be careful not to pull too hard, as this can damage the peppers.
Step 2
Place the stemmed Ggwari Gochu peppers into a microwave-safe airtight container. Add 1 tablespoon of water. Secure the lid and gently shake the container. This light coating of water will help the flour adhere evenly without clumping.
Step 3
Add the 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour to the container with the lightly moistened peppers. Close the lid again and shake well to ensure each pepper is evenly coated with a light layer of flour. They should look nicely dusted.
Step 4
Cover the container with plastic wrap, ensuring a snug fit. Pierce the plastic wrap a few times with a fork or toothpick to allow steam to escape during cooking. Place the container in the microwave and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Cooking time may vary depending on your microwave’s power and the size of the peppers. Check for doneness; if they seem a bit firm, microwave for an additional 30 seconds at a time.
Step 5
While the peppers are cooking, prepare the seasoning. In a small bowl, combine all the seasoning ingredients: 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon cooking wine, 1 tablespoon gochugaru, 1/3 tablespoon minced garlic, 1 tablespoon minced green onion, 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil, and 1/2 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds. Whisk everything together until well combined. You can adjust the amount of soy sauce or gochugaru to suit your preference.
Step 6
Once the peppers are cooked, carefully remove the container from the microwave. Add the prepared seasoning mixture directly to the warm, steamed peppers. Gently toss everything together to ensure the peppers are evenly coated with the delicious sauce. Your Microwave Ggwari Gochu Jjim is now ready to be served and enjoyed with rice!
