Craving freshly cooked rice even when dining alone? This recipe allows you to quickly prepare a delicious, glossy bowl of rice using your microwave. Learn how to make this simple microwave rice effortlessly.
Ingredients- 140g White Rice (approx. 1 cup)
- 3 Tbsp Frozen Peas
- 3 Tbsp Canned Sweet Corn
- 280ml Water (for soaked rice)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by preparing 140g of white rice (about 1 cup). Rinse the rice 3-4 times thoroughly, then soak it in water for 30 minutes. Soaking the rice significantly improves its texture and flavor.
Step 2
Since the soaked rice measures approximately 280ml, you’ll need an equal amount of water, 280ml. For this recipe, I’ve used a silicone steamer container. Add the soaked rice to the container and pour in 260ml of water. (The remaining 20ml will be added later with the peas and corn).
Step 3
Cover the container with its lid. Crucially, place a deeper bowl underneath the container to catch any boiling water that might overflow. Microwave on high for 5 minutes. This initial 5-minute period is for cooking the rice.
Step 4
After the initial 5 minutes, carefully remove the container from the microwave. Gently stir the rice to ensure even cooking. Place the lid back on and let it steam for 1 minute. This resting period helps the rice grains become tender.
Step 5
Now, prepare your corn and peas. Drain the canned sweet corn and have your frozen peas ready. You’ll need about 3 tablespoons of each.
Step 6
Scatter the prepared peas and corn evenly over the partially cooked rice. Add the reserved 20ml of water and gently mix everything together. Place the lid back on and return the container to the microwave. At this stage, you don’t need the catch-bowl as overflow is unlikely.
Step 7
Microwave for an additional 3 minutes. During this time, the sweetness from the corn and peas will subtly infuse the rice.
Step 8
After the final 3-minute cooking cycle, do not remove the rice immediately. Let it stand, covered, for 1 minute to allow it to steam further using residual heat. This final steaming step ensures the rice is perfectly fluffy and delicious.
Step 9
Your simple microwave corn and pea rice is now ready! You’ve successfully cooked rice effortlessly using just your microwave.
