Long-Lasting Tofu Storage: Tips for Using Leftover Tofu
Tofu Storage, Tofu Shelf Life, Tofu Expiration Date, Using Leftover Tofu, Keeping Tofu Fresh
It’s common to have half a block of tofu left after cooking. But don’t worry! With the right tofu storage method, you can use that fresh tofu for your next meal. Let me show you how to store leftover tofu so it stays delicious and usable.
Essential Ingredients
- Leftover tofu from cooking
- Clean water (purified or bottled water recommended)
- A pinch of salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the leftover tofu from your cooking. You can store it as a whole block or cut it into desired serving sizes.
Step 2
Get an airtight container ready for storing the tofu. Fill the container with clean water (preferably purified or bottled water) and add a tiny pinch of salt, then stir to dissolve. This saltwater solution helps maintain the tofu’s freshness and inhibits bacterial growth. Carefully place the tofu into the water so it’s fully submerged.
Step 3
Securely close the lid of the airtight container to seal it from air, then store it in the refrigerator. This method prevents the tofu from drying out or spoiling.
Step 4
For your information, tofu typically has a shelf life of 14 days from the manufacturing date. The consumption period can be extended up to 90% of this shelf life, but this assumes proper storage. It doesn’t mean the tofu is guaranteed to be good for 90 days regardless. Therefore, it’s crucial to regularly check the storage condition and ensure the tofu is still fresh before consuming it.
