Recipe Info

  • Category : Rice / Porridge / Rice cake
  • Ingredient Category : Others
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Pan-fry
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of Gimbap (cold gimbap works perfectly!)
  • 1 egg
  • Canola oil or cooking oil (enough to generously coat the pan)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare your leftover gimbap. If the gimbap is a bit stiff, you can gently warm it in the microwave for 10-20 seconds to make it easier to handle. Slice the gimbap roll into bite-sized pieces, about 1cm thick. Avoid slicing them too thin, as they might fall apart during cooking.

Step 1

Step 2

In a bowl, crack the egg and whisk it thoroughly with a fork or whisk until smooth. You can add a pinch of salt or pepper for extra flavor, but since gimbap is already seasoned, it’s perfectly fine to omit this.

Step 2

Step 3

Dip each sliced piece of gimbap into the beaten egg, ensuring it’s coated evenly on all sides. Gently press down to help the egg mixture adhere well to the gimbap. Try not to soak the gimbap for too long, as it can become soggy; have your pan ready to go.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a generous amount of canola oil or cooking oil. Once the pan is sufficiently hot, carefully place the egg-coated gimbap pieces onto the pan, making sure they don’t touch each other. Maintaining the right oil temperature is key to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the bottom of the gimbap jeon is golden brown and crispy, carefully flip each piece using a spatula. Cook the other side until it’s also golden and delicious. Cooking over medium heat allows the inside to warm through while the outside becomes perfectly crisp without burning.

Step 5

Step 6

Arrange the beautifully cooked gimbap jeon on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve immediately while warm for the best crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside experience! These are fantastic as a snack for kids or as a delightful accompaniment to drinks. Feel free to serve with ketchup or a soy-based dipping sauce to your liking.
