Essential Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp Doenjang (Korean soybean paste)
- 1 can Tuna (small size)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2 Green Peppers
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 handful Shredded Green Onions (or scallions)
- 1 cup Clams (volume measured in a paper cup)
- 1.5 cups Water (volume measured in a paper cup)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the green peppers thoroughly. Slice them in half, remove the seeds, and then chop them finely into small pieces. If you prefer spicier food, you can leave some seeds or add more.
Step 2
Prepare a deep pot or earthenware pot. Add the doenjang and the tuna, after draining most of its oil. Don’t drain all the oil from the tuna, as it helps retain its flavor.
Step 3
Next, add the essential ingredient for Korean cuisine: 1 Tbsp of minced garlic. Pour in about 1.5 cups of water, just enough to cover the ingredients. Stir well to dissolve the doenjang and tuna.
Step 4
Add 1 cup of the thoroughly washed clams to the pot and bring to a boil over high heat. If the clams are fresh, they will naturally open as they cook. Once the clams open, add the prepared green peppers, shredded green onions, and 1.5 Tbsp of gochugaru. Simmer for a bit longer until all the ingredients are well combined. When the sauce thickens to a ‘jjageul-jjageul’ consistency, your delicious Jjageuli-jang is ready! Spoon generously over warm rice and mix well for an incredibly tasty meal.
