Kimchi & Pork Belly Rolls: A Flavorful Home Party Dish
Effortless Kimchi and Pork Belly Rolls You Can Make Easily!
My homemade kimchi has ripened beautifully, so I decided to make these delicious pork belly rolls wrapped in aged kimchi! The combination of thinly sliced pork belly with crisp vegetables and savory kimchi makes for a perfect home party menu. It’s surprisingly easy to make and incredibly satisfying.
Main Ingredients- Pork Belly (thinly sliced, daepae samgyeopsal) 500g
- Aged/Fermented Napa Cabbage Kimchi 20 leaves
- Carrot 1/2
- Shiitake Mushrooms 3
- Enoki Mushrooms 1 bag
- Pickled Radish (Danmuji) 200g
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the vegetables. Peel the carrot and cut it into thick matchsticks. Remove the stems from the shiitake mushrooms and slice them into similar thick matchsticks. Trim the root ends of the enoki mushrooms. Cut the pickled radish into thick matchsticks as well.
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the filling. Lay one large leaf of aged kimchi flat. You don’t need to wash off the seasoning; just gently squeeze out excess water. On top of the kimchi leaf, place a portion of the prepared pickled radish, carrots, enoki mushrooms, and shiitake mushrooms. Carefully roll the kimchi leaf tightly to enclose the fillings. (Pro Tip: For an extra layer of flavor, you can place a perilla leaf on top of the kimchi before adding the other fillings. It pairs wonderfully with the pork!)
Step 3
Take a slice of thinly sliced pork belly (daepae samgyeopsal) and lay it flat. Place one of the prepared kimchi rolls from step 1 onto the pork belly. Wrap the pork belly around the kimchi roll, pressing gently to ensure it’s secure. Repeat this process to create all the pork belly and kimchi rolls.
Step 4
Heat a lightly oiled pan over low heat. Carefully place the pork belly rolls in the pan and gently roll them around as they cook, until the pork belly is golden brown and cooked through. Avoid overcooking, as this will make the vegetables inside lose their delightful crispness. The goal is for the vegetables to be just tender while retaining some crunch.
Step 5
Once cooked, slice the kimchi and pork belly rolls into bite-sized pieces, similar to how you would slice kimbap. Arrange them attractively on a serving plate. Your delicious Kimchi and Pork Belly Rolls are now ready to be enjoyed!
