Kimchi Fried Rice Waffles
An Amazing Transformation for Leftover Kimchi Fried Rice! A Simple Rice Waffle Recipe
I tried cooking some of the kimchi fried rice I had prepared in a generous batch on an electric waffle maker. It turns out crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, resembling ‘nurungji’ (scorched rice). Kids absolutely love it, and it’s perfect for a quick meal or a satisfying snack.
Ingredients- 300-400g store-bought frozen kimchi fried rice (or homemade)
- A little olive oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the kimchi fried rice. You can use a simple Viennese sausage kimchi fried rice recipe or your own homemade version. Once ready, shape the kimchi fried rice into portions about the size of a child’s fist. Rolling them into compact balls will help them cook evenly in the waffle maker.
Step 2
Lightly brush each side of the electric waffle maker with olive oil. This prevents the rice from sticking and helps achieve a crispier texture. Carefully place the shaped kimchi fried rice balls onto the waffle maker.
Step 3
Close the lid of the waffle maker and gently press down to flatten the rice balls. Be careful not to press too hard, as this might cause the rice to break apart.
Step 4
My electric waffle maker doesn’t have a specific timer setting. When it’s preheated, a red light turns on, and it turns off after about 1 minute. This duration is usually sufficient to cook the rice waffles until they are perfectly crispy and delicious. Once cooked, you can gently lift the rice waffles out with chopsticks or a wooden skewer; they should detach easily.
Step 5
Arrange the beautifully cooked rice waffles on a plate. For an extra touch of flavor, sprinkle some grated Parmesan cheese over the top. This adds a wonderful cheesy and savory note, making the dish even more enjoyable.
