Ingredients- 1 packet Jajang powder (approx. 100g)
- 200g Pork tenderloin
- 1 Onion (medium-sized)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp chicken stock (or 1 Tbsp water)
- 2-3 Tbsp cooking oil
- Cooked rice, as much as you’d like to eat
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Dice the pork tenderloin into bite-sized pieces, about 1 to 1.5 cm cubes, suitable for children. Peel and wash the onion, then dice it into similar 1 to 1.5 cm cubes. Dicing them uniformly helps them cook evenly and adds a pleasant texture to the sauce.
Step 2
Heat 2-3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a wide pan or wok over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. Once the garlic is aromatic, add the diced pork and cook until it’s no longer pink on the outside.
Step 3
Once the pork is mostly cooked, add the diced onion to the pan. Stir-fry together for 2-3 minutes until the onions become translucent and slightly softened. Cooking over medium-low heat prevents the onions from burning and brings out their natural sweetness.
Step 4
After stir-frying the onions slightly, pour in 600ml of water and bring it to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 5
In a separate small bowl, combine the Jajang powder packet with about 200ml of cold water. Stir thoroughly until there are no lumps. Dissolving the powder in water beforehand ensures a smooth sauce without clumps. Adjust the water amount based on the package instructions and desired consistency.
Step 6
Slowly pour the dissolved Jajang mixture into the boiling ingredients in the pan. Stir continuously with a spatula or ladle as you pour to prevent any lumps from forming.
Step 7
After adding the Jajang mixture, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes. Keep stirring to prevent sticking.
Step 8
To enhance the flavor of the Jajang sauce, stir in 1 tablespoon of chicken stock and let it simmer together. If chicken stock is unavailable, you can substitute it with 1 teaspoon of soy sauce or 1/2 teaspoon of sugar for a touch of sweetness and umami.
Step 9
Continue to simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce has thickened nicely and the flavors have deepened. Consistent stirring is key to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
Step 10
After 10 minutes, when the sauce has reached your preferred consistency and the ingredients are well combined, your Jajang sauce is ready! Serve generously over a bowl of warm rice for a delicious Jajang rice. You can also top it with a fried egg or some shredded cucumber for extra flavor and texture.
