Recipe Info

  • Category : Main dish
  • Ingredient Category : Beef
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Grilled / Roasted
  • Servings : 3 servings
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1 Tomahawk steak (approx. 500g)
  • Steak seasoning (salt, pepper, garlic powder, etc.) to taste
  • Olive oil, generously
  • 2 cloves whole garlic
  • 1 medium onion

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, ensure your Tomahawk steak is thoroughly thawed in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours. Once thawed, pat the surface of the steak completely dry with paper towels. This step is crucial for achieving a beautiful sear and removing any excess moisture. (The steak in the photo is about 3.5cm thick.)

Step 1

Step 2

Generously season the steak on all sides with your preferred steak seasoning. Then, coat the entire steak with olive oil. After seasoning and oiling, let the steak rest in the refrigerator for about 1 hour. This allows the flavors to meld and penetrate the meat for a more robust taste.

Step 2

Step 3

Preheat your steam oven or conventional oven to 230°C (450°F). Place the seasoned Tomahawk steak in the preheated oven and cook for 10 minutes. If using a steam oven, utilize the steam function for an even more tender result. Preheating ensures a good initial sear, locking in the juices.

Step 3

Step 4

After 10 minutes, you’ll already notice a delicious aroma filling your kitchen! The steak’s exterior should be starting to look beautifully browned. At this point, you can check on the doneness of the meat.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, it’s time to add the whole garlic cloves and the onion to the pan alongside the steak. Flip the steak over, and continue to cook for another 5 minutes at 230°C (450°F). The garlic and onion will roast in the steak’s juices, adding another layer of flavor to your meal.

Step 5

Step 6

Voila! Your delicious Tomahawk steak is ready. While some recipes call for a butter baste at the end, we’re finishing it here to let the natural flavors of the meat shine. Slice and serve immediately while it’s hot and juicy. This is sure to be the centerpiece of your special celebration!
