Effective Honey Radish Syrup for Coughs and Phlegm: A Recipe for the Whole Family

Honey Radish Syrup for Seasonal Throat Care

Hello, I’m Jina, your cooking friend! How is everyone’s throat health these days? With the changing seasons and fluctuating temperatures, throat care is more important than ever. Our family recently battled a persistent cold, and what really helped us was making ‘Honey Radish Syrup’. Radishes contain a compound called ‘sinigrin’, which is known to protect the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract. When fermented with honey, it’s said to help alleviate coughs and phlegm. Taking just one spoonful a day is a great way to support your throat health. If you’re worried about your throat health during this season, suffer from frequent colds, or have sensitive airways, pay close attention to this recipe! Let’s get rid of these coughs and colds together!

  • Difficulty : Anyone

Recipe Ingredients

  • 300g Daikon Radish
  • 300g Honey (Wildflower honey recommended, but any type is fine)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash and peel the daikon radish. Then, julienne it into very thin strips. The thinner you slice it, the more juice the radish will release, which is key for this recipe.

Step 1

Step 2

Sterilize your storage container by boiling it in water. Once clean and dry, place all the julienned radish into the container.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, it’s time to add the honey. Use an equal amount of honey as radish (300g). Pour in enough honey so that the radish strips are fully submerged. (Tip: While wildflower honey was used here, any type of honey will work perfectly.)

Step 3

Step 4

Leave the mixture at room temperature for about 2-3 hours. You’ll notice the honey starting to dissolve and the radish releasing its moisture, creating radish juice. After about a day, the beneficial compounds from the radish will infuse into the honey, resulting in a plentiful amount of delicious honey water.

Step 4

Step 5

The finished honey water can be mixed with lukewarm water for a soothing drink. (Important: Avoid using hot water, as it can destroy the beneficial nutrients in the honey. Lukewarm is best!)

Step 5

Step 6

For children, it’s recommended to give them about 1 teaspoon once a day, after meals. You can serve it in a small medicine bottle for easy administration. This is a wonderful way to support their throat health.
