Honey-Pear Preserve for Kids during Seasonal Changes

Pears are known to be beneficial for the respiratory system, aren’t they? To support your child’s health during the changing seasons, I’ve made a simple honey-pear preserve using pears. This sweet and gentle preserve offers a delightful blend of pear’s subtle flavor and honey’s rich sweetness, making it a favorite for children. It’s also a wonderful way to soothe a sore throat when dissolved in warm water. Try making it today!

Ingredients

  • 1 medium pear
  • Honey (equal amount to pear pulp, or slightly less)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare one medium pear. Peel the pear, remove the core, and then thinly slice it into strips about 0.5 cm thick. Slicing thinly is key for the honey to penetrate well and for easier consumption later. Estimate the amount of pear pulp you have after slicing. Prepare honey in a 1:1 ratio with the pear pulp; however, you can use slightly less honey if you prefer it not too sweet.

Step 1

Step 2

Sterilize a glass jar by boiling it in hot water, and make sure it is completely dry. Place about one-third of the thinly sliced pear at the bottom of the sterilized jar.

Step 2

Step 3

Drizzle the prepared honey evenly over the pear slices, ensuring they are well covered. It’s important for the honey to seep into all the pear pieces.

Step 3

Step 4

Add another layer of thinly sliced pear, filling about one-third of the jar on top of the honey. Continue layering the ingredients.

Step 4

Step 5

Once you’ve added the pear, generously drizzle honey over it again. Make sure the honey permeates well between the pear slices.

Step 5

Step 6

Continue this process, alternating layers of sliced pear and honey, until the glass jar is about 80-90% full. It’s best to finish with a layer of honey on top.

Step 6

Step 7

Close the lid and let it sit at room temperature for about 3-4 hours to allow the honey to fully infuse into the pear. Afterward, store it in the refrigerator. The preserve will be ready to eat after about half a day. You can enjoy it by scooping out a spoonful of both pear and honey, or dissolve 1-2 spoonfuls in warm water to make a soothing tea, which is excellent for maintaining throat health during seasonal changes.
