Effortless Cafe-Quality Tiramisu: A Simple Recipe for Beginners
Experience the luxurious taste of tiramisu right in your own kitchen, without even turning on the oven! This recipe is designed for ultimate simplicity, using common ingredients like sponge cake, fresh cream, cream cheese, instant coffee, and cocoa powder. You can whip up this delightful dessert in about 15 minutes, perfect for a quick treat or an impressive dessert.
🍰 Essential Tiramisu Ingredients- 3 pieces of sponge cake (Castella cake), about 1.5 cm thick
- 400ml fresh heavy cream (well-chilled)
- 300g cream cheese (at room temperature)
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar (approx. 30g)
- 1 packet instant coffee mix (any brand, use your favorite)
- 20g unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)
- 20g powdered sugar (for dusting)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the Coffee Syrup: In a small bowl, dissolve 1 packet of instant coffee mix (you can use a Tiramisu latte flavored one or your preferred instant coffee) in 2-3 tablespoons of hot water. Stir until completely dissolved. Once dissolved, place the bowl in the refrigerator to cool down. This step is crucial for infusing the tiramisu with its signature coffee aroma.
Step 2
Slice the Sponge Cake: Cut the sponge cake into three equal layers, approximately 1.5 cm thick. Ensuring consistent thickness will help create beautiful layers in your tiramisu.
Step 3
Whip the Cream: Pour the chilled heavy cream into a mixing bowl. Add the 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Whip the cream using an electric mixer or a whisk until it reaches about 60% stiffness – it should hold soft peaks but still be flowing slightly. Be careful not to over-whip, as this can make the texture too stiff.
Step 4
Create the Cream Cheese Filling: Add the room-temperature cream cheese to the whipped cream. Mix with an electric mixer or a spatula until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and holds firm peaks. A firm consistency is key to maintaining the structure of the tiramisu.
Step 5
Assemble the First Layer: Place one of the sponge cake layers at the bottom of your serving dish (a rectangular dish works well). Ensure the cake fits snugly to fill the base.
Step 6
Soak the Cake: Generously brush or spoon the chilled coffee syrup over the sponge cake layer. Make sure the cake is well-moistened but not soggy. This step adds moisture and the essential coffee flavor.
Step 7
Add the Cream Filling: Spread half of the cream cheese mixture evenly over the coffee-soaked sponge cake. Smooth the surface gently with a spatula.
Step 8
Repeat the Layers: Repeat the process: place another layer of sponge cake, soak it with coffee syrup, and then spread the remaining cream cheese mixture on top.
Step 9
Smooth the Top: Use a spatula or scraper to create a smooth, even surface on the top layer of cream cheese. This will make the final dusting look much neater.
Step 10
First Dusting: Sift the powdered sugar evenly over the top of the tiramisu. This creates a beautiful, snowy base for the cocoa powder.
Step 11
Final Dusting and Chilling: Sift the unsweetened cocoa powder over the powdered sugar. Cover the tiramisu tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or preferably overnight. Chilling allows the flavors to meld and the dessert to set properly, resulting in a richer taste.
