Ingredients
- 1 English Muffin (if using frozen, thaw at room temperature for 1 hour)
- 1 strip Bacon
- 1 slice Tomato (about 0.5 cm thick)
- 1 Egg
- 1 slice Cheese
- 1 Tbsp Mustard Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The foundation of a McMuffin is the English muffin. Unlike the domed muffins we often picture, these are flat and round, hence the ‘English’ prefix to avoid confusion. If you’re using a frozen English muffin, remember to take it out of the freezer and let it thaw at room temperature for about an hour before you start cooking.
Step 2
While the muffin is thawing, let’s get the fillings ready! First, cook the bacon in a pan over medium-low heat, flipping it occasionally until it’s nice and crispy. You can gently dab away excess grease with a paper towel for a cleaner sandwich.
Step 3
Wash your tomato and then slice it into rounds, about 0.5 cm thick. The fresh, bright flavor of the tomato will add a wonderful balance to the sandwich.
Step 4
You can cook the egg however you prefer, but a soft, sunny-side-up fried egg is classic for a McMuffin. Lightly grease a pan, crack the egg into it, and fry gently, being careful not to overcook the yolk. A pinch of salt and pepper is optional.
Step 5
Once your English muffin has thawed, carefully slice it in half horizontally. Place the cut sides down on a dry skillet over medium-low heat. Toast them lightly until they’re golden brown and slightly crisp. This toasting step brings out a wonderful aroma and a delightful texture.
Step 6
Now it’s time for the sauces! Spread a layer of creamy mayonnaise on one of the toasted muffin halves, and a layer of tangy mustard sauce on the other. Alternatively, you can mix the two sauces together for a blended flavor. Feel free to adjust the amount of sauce to your liking.
Step 7
Let’s assemble the sandwich! On the bottom half of the muffin (the one with sauce), layer the crispy bacon, followed by the fresh tomato slice, and then the fried egg. Arrange them neatly.
Step 8
Finally, place the slice of cheese on top of the egg and cover it with the other muffin half. Your delicious McMuffin sandwich is now complete! Enjoy it while it’s warm for that perfect melted cheese experience.
Step 9
I added a cute little flag pick for my son, and he absolutely loved it! He exclaimed, ‘Wow, it’s so pretty!’ and showed a lot of interest in his McMuffin before happily devouring it. This is a fantastic option when you want a simple yet special brunch, so why not give it a try?
