Homemade Honey Garlic: A Healthy Recipe for Boosting Immunity and Relieving Muscle Soreness
Honey Garlic & Honey Garlic Tea for Enhanced Immunity and Muscle Pain Relief
Garlic is well-known for its potential anti-cancer properties. Did you know that consistently consuming about one clove of raw or cooked garlic daily can help prevent cancer? While raw garlic might cause digestive issues for some, cooked garlic can be enjoyed without discomfort. Remarkably, cooking garlic causes minimal loss of its nutritional value, and actually increases its digestibility and absorption rate. Honey garlic offers numerous health benefits, including alleviating muscle soreness, boosting the immune system, improving blood circulation, aiding detoxification, and enhancing stamina. Today, let’s learn how to make this delicious and healthy honey garlic at home.
Ingredients- 200g fresh garlic
- 100g high-quality honey
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the ingredients for your honey garlic. The key ratio to remember is 2 parts garlic to 1 part honey. This ratio can be adjusted for any quantity you wish to make.
Step 2
Wash the garlic thoroughly. After washing, it’s crucial to drain the garlic completely using a colander. Excess moisture can prevent the honey from mixing well.
Step 3
Trim off the root end of each garlic clove. This step helps reduce any bitterness and gives the garlic a neater appearance.
Step 4
The garlic preparation is now complete. We’re ready to move on to the next step of cooking the garlic.
Step 5
Fill a steamer with water and bring it to a boil. Once steam begins to rise, place a damp (but well-wrung-out) cheesecloth or clean kitchen towel on the steamer rack. Spread the prepared garlic cloves evenly over the cloth.
Step 6
Cover the steamer and cook the garlic over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Once the garlic is tender, turn off the heat and let it steam for an additional 5 minutes with the lid on. This allows the garlic to become moist and tender all the way through.
Step 7
Voila! The garlic is now perfectly steamed, tender, and wonderfully moist. You can test its doneness by easily piercing it with a chopstick.
Step 8
Sterilize a heatproof glass jar by boiling it in water for about 5 minutes. If the jar has a rubber seal, remove it before boiling. After sterilizing, ensure the jar is completely dry, both inside and out.
Step 9
Add the steamed garlic to the sterilized jar. You can mash the garlic slightly before adding it, or if you prefer a chewier texture, you can add the cloves whole. Whole cloves will result in more distinct pieces in your honey garlic tea.
Step 10
Now, it’s time to add the honey. Pour in honey, using about half the amount of garlic. This step ensures we maintain our 2:1 garlic-to-honey ratio.
Step 11
Stir the honey and garlic together thoroughly until well combined. If you mashed the garlic, it will blend into a paste with the honey. If using whole cloves, ensure the honey coats each piece.
Step 12
Your delicious and healthy honey garlic is ready! You can enjoy it immediately, but letting it age will develop even deeper flavors.
Step 13
To make it easier to find later, label the jar with the name of the honey garlic and the date it was made.
Step 14
This is the honey garlic after being aged in the refrigerator for about a week. The honey has beautifully infused the garlic, creating a richer flavor profile.
Step 15
I intentionally mashed the garlic coarsely, giving it a consistency similar to jam. It would also be delicious spread on toast!
Step 16
It’s recommended to have one tablespoon of honey garlic daily. Place one tablespoon of honey garlic into a cup and pour in warm water.
Step 17
And there you have it – your warm honey garlic tea! Since the garlic is cooked, the spiciness is very mild, and there’s a subtle garlic aroma, but the overall taste is pleasant and not overpowering. Most importantly, it’s incredibly beneficial for your health, so regular consumption is highly encouraged!
Step 18
After a little while, the garlic pieces will settle at the bottom of the cup, making the tea appear clearer. You can chew on the softened garlic pieces; they are not spicy at all and quite palatable.
