Homemade Healthy Apple Jam
Sugar-Free Allulose Apple Jam & Whole Blueberry Jam Recipe
This recipe is designed for those who love toast with jam for breakfast, especially individuals managing diabetes. Unlike store-bought jams that often have a 1:1 ratio of fruit to sugar, this homemade version uses no sugar, aiding in blood sugar control. Enjoy a healthy and delicious meal with these wholesome jams.
Sugar-Free Apple Jam
- 800g fresh apples
- 300g Allulose
- 1 Tbsp Pectin
- 1 Tbsp Cinnamon powder
- 2 Tbsp Lemon juice
Whole Blueberry Jam
- 1.5kg fresh blueberries
- 150g Stevia
- 1.5kg fresh blueberries
- 150g Stevia
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
For the best jam, select fresh, high-quality apples. Using premium apples, rather than less appealing ones, will result in a jam with a deeper flavor.
Step 2
Combine 800g of prepared apple chunks with 300g of Allulose and mix well.
Step 3
Allulose can be found near corn syrup in most supermarkets. While it has about 1/10th the calories of sugar, it’s a type of fructose, so individuals with diabetes should consume it in moderation. However, it raises blood sugar more slowly than regular sugar, making it a better alternative.
Step 4
Cook the apples and Allulose over high heat for about 30 minutes. You don’t need to stir constantly during this time. Cook until most of the liquid has evaporated and the mixture has thickened.
Step 5
Once the apple mixture has reduced, stir in 1 tablespoon of pectin. Pectin will help thicken the jam to the desired consistency.
Step 6
Next, add 1 tablespoon of cinnamon powder for a fragrant aroma. Cinnamon enhances the natural apple flavor beautifully.
Step 7
Finally, add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to balance the flavors with a touch of tartness. Pour the finished apple jam into sterilized jars. Store in the refrigerator.
Step 8
The waffles in the photo were made from scratch. My daughter shared her favorite recipe, saying she makes them herself. Although it’s a bit more effort, I decided to make them too, inspired by her commitment. Homemade waffles, made without a mix, offer a truly special taste.
Step 9
Gently wash 1.5kg of fresh blueberries and place them in a pot. Add 150g of Stevia and stir until the Stevia is completely dissolved. Some might wonder if frozen blueberries work, but using fresh berries that you freeze yourself is recommended. (Note: Pre-frozen blueberries may have been soaked in sugar water, so fresh is preferred for this recipe).
Step 10
You might wonder if this will turn into jam, but after simmering over medium-low heat for about 40 minutes, it starts to take on a jam-like consistency. This ‘Whole Blueberry Jam’ is made without mashing the berries, preserving their texture. This recipe yielded about 4 small jars (200g each), showing the blueberries reduced by roughly half. This explains why Stevia-sweetened jams are often expensive! The wonderful news about Stevia is that it’s not absorbed by the body and is excreted, meaning it has zero calories!
Step 11
Now you can enjoy jam without any guilt! When spread on toast, it tastes even sweeter than regular sugar jam. Plus, the sensation of biting into plump, soft blueberry ‘pearls’ is absolutely delightful. This jam is a winner, offering both health benefits and incredible flavor.
