Hamburg Steak Ingredients- 200g minced beef
- 100g minced pork
- 50g breadcrumbs
- 100g finely chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 egg
- Tonkatsu sauce, for serving
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a large bowl, combine the minced beef and pork. Add the breadcrumbs for tenderness, finely chopped onion for sweetness, salt and pepper for seasoning, and the egg to bind everything together. Now, knead the mixture vigorously with your hands until all ingredients are well combined and the mixture becomes cohesive and slightly sticky. Kneading well for about 5-7 minutes is crucial for achieving the perfect texture. This thorough kneading will give your Hamburg steak a delightful chew.
Step 2
Divide the well-kneaded meat mixture into four equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then gently flatten it with your palm to form a round, patty shape. Aim for a thickness of about 1.5 cm, not too thick. To ensure even cooking, lightly press the center of each patty inwards. This prevents the center from puffing up too much as it cooks.
Step 3
Heat a generous amount of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Place the formed Hamburg steaks in the hot pan and sear them until golden brown on both sides, developing a delicious crust. Once both sides are nicely browned, carefully pour about 1/2 cup of water into the pan. Cover with a lid and reduce the heat to medium-low. Let it simmer and steam for about 5-7 minutes, or until the Hamburg steaks are cooked through. This steaming method ensures a moist and tender interior.
Step 4
For an extra layer of deliciousness, we recommend using Ottogi Tonkatsu sauce as a finishing touch. Its savory, sweet, and tangy profile is a perfect match for the Hamburg steak. If you prefer, you can also make your own sauce by mixing ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and other seasonings to your taste. Generously ladle the sauce over the freshly cooked Hamburg steaks and enjoy!
