Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare all your ingredients. It’s best if the egg is at room temperature.
Step 2
In a bowl, whisk together 1 cup of milk and 1 egg until well combined. Then, add 2 cups of pancake mix and stir just until the powder is mostly incorporated. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the waffles tough. A few lumps are perfectly fine.
Step 3
Lightly grease your waffle iron or a frying pan with a very thin layer of canola oil, then wipe it with a paper towel to coat. This prevents the waffles from sticking and ensures a beautiful golden crust.
Step 4
Heat the pan over medium-low heat. Pour about one ladleful of the batter onto the pan, spreading it into a round shape. If using a waffle iron, close the lid. If using a frying pan, cover it with a lid and cook on low heat until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. You’ll know it’s time to flip when bubbles start to form on the surface.
Step 5
Once golden brown, transfer the cooked waffles to a wire rack to cool slightly. This step helps keep them crisp and prevents them from becoming soggy.
Step 6
Spread a generous layer of creamy cream cheese onto your slightly cooled waffle. Dollop with sweet fig jam, and finish with a sprinkle of crunchy chopped nuts. Enjoy your homemade café-style waffles! Feel free to add whipped cream, fresh fruits, or other toppings to your liking.
