[Fig Recipe] Make Healthy Homemade Jam with Seasonal Figs

Homemade Fig Jam

Seeing the ripe figs at the supermarket made me so happy. My son loves figs, so I bought two boxes and made various treats. With the leftover figs, I decided to create a healthy jam. I’ve reduced the sugar and used zero-calorie stevia, so you can enjoy it without any guilt. The taste is just as delicious as jam made with regular sugar! Let’s make this super simple fig jam together. ^^

Recipe Info

  • Category : Seasoning / Sauce / Jam
  • Ingredient Category : Fruits
  • Occasion : Others
  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : More than 6 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 60 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Ingredients

  • 11 ripe figs (approx. 648g)
  • 150ml granulated sugar
  • 200ml stevia sweetener
  • A splash of fresh lemon juice

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the figs, lemon juice, granulated sugar, and stevia for making the jam. Having all your ingredients ready beforehand makes the cooking process much smoother.

Step 1

Step 2

Here are the fresh figs I bought from the supermarket. I was so delighted to see them that I grabbed them right away! Seasonal fruits are truly special on their own.

Step 2

Step 3

Remove the stems from the figs. Briefly soak them in water with a few drops of vinegar, then rinse thoroughly under running water. This method effectively removes any surface impurities.

Step 3

Step 4

After washing, carefully peel off any slightly bruised parts of the fig skin. Then, cut the figs into bite-sized pieces as shown in the photo. It’s best to inspect the fruit and peel only the damaged areas.

Step 4

Step 5

I love a jam with a bit of texture from the fig pieces. So, instead of mashing the fruit completely, I’ll add the chopped figs directly to the pot. Stir in the prepared granulated sugar and stevia.

Step 5

Step 6

Begin cooking over medium-low heat. The figs will naturally release a lot of their juices. Continue to cook, stirring constantly with a spatula to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot, until the mixture thickens. This can take about 30-40 minutes.

Step 6

Step 7

After simmering for over 40 minutes, the mixture has reduced by about half. Once it reaches your desired consistency, add 3-4 drops of fresh lemon juice and stir well. Lemon juice enhances the flavor and acts as a natural preservative. Turn off the heat immediately after mixing.

Step 7

Step 8

Sterilize the glass jars you’ll be using for the jam. Wash them thoroughly, then place them in boiling water for sterilization. This step is crucial for ensuring the jam stays fresh for longer.

Step 8

Step 9

Carefully ladle the hot, freshly made fig jam into the sterilized glass jars, filling them to the brim. Seal the jars tightly, let them cool completely, and then store them in the refrigerator. Your delicious homemade jam is now ready!

Step 9

Step 10

This is the fig jam after being refrigerated overnight. If you’re worried that using stevia might alter the taste, don’t be! If you don’t mention that stevia was used, no one will be able to tell. It has a wonderfully natural and delicious flavor.

Step 10

Step 11

I spread a generous amount of this fig jam on a toasted baguette, alongside a fried egg. My whole family enjoyed a sweet and healthy brunch together. This jam truly made our mealtime more delightful!

Step 11

Step 12

This sweet and delicious fig jam is the perfect way to enjoy seasonal fruits for an extended period. Since fresh figs are only available for a short time, I highly recommend making this healthy homemade jam to savor their flavor all year round. Enjoy!
