Homemade Cottage Cheese for Your Dog
How to Make Dog-Friendly Cottage Cheese
A gentle, lactose-free cheese specifically for canine consumption
Ingredients
- 500ml Lactose-Free Milk (for dogs)
- 1 Tbsp Vinegar (any type)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
To begin, gather your key ingredients: ‘lactose-free milk’ and ‘vinegar’. It’s crucial to use lactose-free milk because dogs have difficulty digesting lactose, and regular milk can cause stomach upset. Ensure the milk has 0g of lactose. Any type of vinegar you have on hand will work perfectly for this recipe!
Step 2
Pour the 500ml of lactose-free milk into a saucepan. Place it over high heat and bring it to a gentle boil. As soon as you see foam forming around the edges, immediately reduce the heat to low. Be careful not to let it boil over or scorch.
Step 3
Once the milk is warm and starting to show signs of boiling, carefully stir in 1 tablespoon of vinegar. You’ll notice the milk beginning to change texture right after adding the vinegar.
Step 4
Continue to simmer gently over low heat after adding the vinegar. The milk will start to curdle and form soft, tofu-like clumps. As soon as you see these curds forming, turn off the heat. Overcooking at this stage can result in a tougher cheese texture.
Step 5
Carefully pour the curds and whey mixture into a fine-mesh sieve placed over a bowl. This will allow the liquid whey to drain away, leaving the cheese solids behind. Gently press the cheese curds with the back of a spoon or ladle to help remove any remaining whey. This simple process yields a delicious cottage cheese that is safe and healthy for your dog. Serve as a special treat!^^
