Homemade Chilled Milk Shaved Ice
Easy & Delicious Homemade Milk Shaved Ice Recipe (No Ice Shaver Needed!)
Feeling the summer heat? Especially when the kids are home, it can feel even warmer! For your dear sons working hard with their online classes, a refreshing bowl of shaved ice after their lessons is a wonderful treat. They’ll surely give you a big thumbs up and call you the best mom! While we do have an ice shaver at home, it’s often too much hassle to get it out and clean it. So, these days, we’ve been making delicious shaved ice easily using just a zip-top bag. This simple method is perfect for a quick and delightful summer snack!
Shaved Ice Ingredients- 500ml Cold Milk
- Sweet Condensed Milk (to taste)
- Chewy Injeolmi (rice cake) (as needed)
- Fresh Summer Fruits (like watermelon or melon)
- Sweet Mango
- Crispy Oreo Cookies
- Soft Ice Cream (Vanilla flavor recommended)
- Sweet Red Bean Paste (Pat)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Freeze the Milk for the Shaved Ice Base: Pour about half a bag of milk into a zip-top bag and seal it tightly. Place it in the freezer for 3-4 hours until it’s frozen solid. You can choose to mix condensed milk into the milk before freezing for added sweetness, or drizzle it on top later. I personally prefer to freeze plain milk and add condensed milk afterward.
Step 2
Prepare Your Toppings: Gather your favorite toppings to make your shaved ice extra special. Prepare sweet red bean paste (pat), roasted soybean flour (seoritae konggaru), condensed milk, and chewy injeolmi (rice cakes). If your children love Oreos, crushing them and sprinkling them on top adds a delightful crunch and flavor. As watermelon is in season, dicing it up and adding it provides a refreshing taste. You can create a fruit shaved ice, red bean shaved ice, Oreo shaved ice, or mango shaved ice – the possibilities are endless! Adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream is also a wonderful option.
Step 3
Scoop the Frozen Milk into a Bowl: Using an ice cream scoop or a spoon, gently scrape and transfer the frozen milk into your serving bowl. This will create a soft, snow-like texture for your shaved ice.
Step 4
Generously Add Your Toppings!: Arrange your prepared toppings beautifully over the frozen milk base. Sprinkle on the nutty roasted soybean flour and generously add the sweet red bean paste. My older son loves red beans, so I added plenty for him. For my younger son, who isn’t a fan of red beans, I drizzled a generous amount of sweet condensed milk instead. Once you’ve added the injeolmi, condensed milk, red bean paste, and soybean powder, your delicious homemade milk shaved ice is complete! It’s the perfect summer treat that everyone in the family will adore.
