Homemade Canned Peaches Recipe
Transforming Less-Than-Perfect Peaches into Delicious Homemade Canned Peaches
Did you receive an abundance of peaches this summer and find yourself wondering how to use them all? Worry no more! This recipe will guide you through making delightful canned peaches right in your own kitchen. These sweet and tender canned peaches make for a perfect snack or dessert. Even without a special canning machine, you can easily create this delicious treat. So, let’s turn those ripe summer peaches into a delightful jar of homemade goodness!
Ingredients- 4 Peaches
- 94g Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 Lemon
- 1/2 Tbsp Lemon Juice
- 300ml Water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Thoroughly wash the peaches and then peel them carefully. You can do this by gently running a knife around the peach from top to bottom, peeling the skin away in thin strips for a clean finish.
Step 2
Once peeled, cut the peach flesh into bite-sized pieces. Imagine cutting an apple into wedges, aiming for pieces that will fit nicely into your jars. Cutting them too small might cause them to break apart during cooking.
Step 3
Place the cut peach pieces into a wide, deep pot. Add the half lemon, sliced, to the pot. This will infuse a wonderful citrus aroma and enhance the peach’s natural flavor.
Step 4
Sprinkle 94g of granulated sugar evenly over the peaches in the pot. You can adjust the amount of sugar based on the sweetness of your peaches and your personal preference.
Step 5
Next, pour 300ml of water into the pot. The water should roughly cover the peaches, but you don’t need to submerge them completely. Too much water will extend the cooking time.
Step 6
Finally, add 1/2 tablespoon of lemon juice for a touch of brightness. It’s perfectly fine to add the lemon juice once the mixture starts to boil. Give everything a gentle stir to ensure the ingredients are well combined.
Step 7
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer gently for about 12 minutes, or until the peaches become translucent and the syrup thickens. Stir occasionally to prevent the peaches from sticking to the bottom of the pot. While the peaches are simmering, prepare your jars: wash them thoroughly and then sterilize them by boiling in water. Place the jars upside down on a clean towel to allow them to dry completely.
Step 8
Once the peaches are cooked and the syrup has thickened, let the mixture cool slightly. Carefully transfer the warm peach pieces and the syrup into the sterilized and dried jars, filling them almost to the brim. Your homemade canned peaches are now ready! Store them in the refrigerator and enjoy them chilled. They taste just like store-bought canned peaches and are incredibly easy to make. They are perfect for a quick snack, as a topping for yogurt, or even in salads. Enjoy your delicious homemade treat!
