Homemade Butter Cookies
Making Butter Cookies Even Tastier Than Butterring Cookies!
Whip up delicious butter cookies at home with just butter, cake flour, eggs, and sugar! These cookies are a family favorite, often enjoyed more than store-bought ones, especially by the kids. They’re perfect for any time you crave a sweet treat.
Ingredients
- 130g Cake flour
- 1 large Egg
- 63g Sugar
- 100g Butter
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, to ensure perfectly tender cookies, bring 100g of butter to room temperature. It should be soft enough to cream easily. Alternatively, you can microwave it in short 10-20 second bursts until softened, but be careful not to melt it completely into a liquid.
Step 2
In a bowl, cream the softened butter with 63g of sugar until the mixture is smooth and no longer gritty. Then, beat in 1 large egg until well combined and the mixture is homogenous. Ensure the egg is fully incorporated to prevent separation.
Step 3
Sift 130g of cake flour into the butter mixture. Gently fold it in using a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the cookies tough.
Step 4
The dough should have a thick, pliable consistency that holds its shape when piped. If the dough is too stiff and breaks easily, add milk a tiny bit at a time (about 1/2 teaspoon) until it reaches the desired consistency. If it’s too runny, add a small amount of cake flour until it thickens.
Step 5
Fit a piping bag with your desired tip and fill it with the cookie dough. This step is for creating decorative shapes. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can simply drop spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet to create rustic cookies.
Step 6
Unfortunately, I misplaced my favorite piping tip, so I had to improvise with what I had! This is what makes these butter cookies so fun to make with kids – the simple recipe and the freedom to create any shapes they imagine. They love playing with their cookie creations before devouring them!
Step 7
Line your baking sheets with parchment paper before placing the piped dough. This makes it incredibly easy to remove the cookies after baking. While I initially planned only round shapes, we let the kids’ creativity take over, resulting in a variety of fun designs! Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. This timing usually results in perfectly crisp cookies. Adjust baking time and temperature according to your oven.
