With delicious apples readily available and affordably priced, I’ve created a recipe using them. This recipe is perfect for a healthy snack for children and even adults!
Sweet Homemade Apple Jam- 2 medium apples

Simple Apple Bread Pies- 3 slices of bread
- 3 Tbsp prepared homemade apple jam
- 1 egg (beaten with stringy bits removed)
- Butter or cooking oil, for brushing
- 3 slices of bread
- 3 Tbsp prepared homemade apple jam
- 1 egg (beaten with stringy bits removed)
- Butter or cooking oil, for brushing
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the 2 apples for the jam. Wash them thoroughly, peel off all the skin, remove the cores, and dice them into small, uniform pieces (about 0.5cm to 1cm cubes).
Step 2
Place the diced apples and 100g of sugar into a saucepan. Cover with a lid and simmer over very low heat. This step allows the sugar to dissolve and the apples to release their moisture.
Step 3
Once the sugar has completely dissolved and the apples begin to soften, remove the lid. Now, stir occasionally to prevent sticking as the jam reduces. (Scrape the bottom of the pot with a spatula as you stir).
Step 4
As the jam starts to thicken, stir in 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon. The cinnamon aroma will blend with the apple jam, adding a richer flavor profile.
Step 5
When the jam has reduced significantly and is becoming quite thick, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. The lemon juice helps maintain a brighter color and adds a touch of tartness, balancing the sweetness.
Step 6
Continue to cook, stirring, until the jam reaches your desired consistency. It’s ready when a spoonful of jam drips slowly or the bottom of the pot is slightly visible when scraped. Transfer the finished jam to clean jars, let cool, and store in the refrigerator.
Step 7
Now, let’s make the apple bread pies. Take 3 slices of bread and carefully trim off the crusts with a knife.
Step 8
Using a rolling pin or a flat glass, flatten each slice of bread as much as possible to make it thin and wide. This will help create a neat shape when folding the pies.
Step 9
Place about 1 tablespoon of the homemade apple jam in the center of one flattened bread slice. Brush the edges of the bread with the beaten egg. This egg wash acts as a ‘glue’ to seal the bread slices together.
Step 10
Cover the jam with another flattened bread slice. Use a fork to firmly press down along the edges to seal the pie securely. It’s important to press firmly to prevent the jam from leaking out during baking.
Step 11
Lightly brush the outside of the bread pies with butter or cooking oil. (You can also use the remaining egg wash.) This step ensures the pies turn a lovely golden brown and become crispy when baked. Place them in an air fryer or a preheated oven (180°C / 350°F) for about 5-8 minutes, or until golden brown and appetizing. (Adjust cooking time based on your appliance.)
Step 12
Voilà! Your crispy on the outside, moist and sweet apple jam-filled apple bread pies are ready. They are especially delicious when served warm!
