Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 can Spam
  • 1 Cheongyang chili pepper
  • 1 potato
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, finely chop the Cheongyang chili pepper. Peel the potato and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Take half a can of Spam, place it in a resealable bag, remove excess air, and then mash it with your hands. You can adjust how finely you mash the Spam based on your preference. For a smoother texture, mash it thoroughly. If you prefer some chewiness, leave it chunkier.

Step 2

Heat a pan and add the chopped green onions first. Sauté them briefly to release their aroma. Then, add the prepared potatoes and mashed Spam. Finally, add all the seasoning ingredients (minced garlic, sugar, soy sauce, gochugaru, gochujang, and doenjang). The ‘Taste of Discovery’ recipe is explained so simply yet deliciously, making it easy even for beginner cooks to follow.

Step 3

Once all the ingredients and seasonings are in the pan, add just enough water to cover the ingredients. Now, bring it to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low, stir occasionally, and let it simmer until the sauce becomes slightly thick and reduced. I personally find it most delicious when the sauce is not too watery but has a nice, concentrated consistency. It’s perfect for mixing with rice or eating with a spoon. Enjoy your delicious meal!
