  • Ingredient Category : Beef
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : More than 6 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Ingredients

  • 400g Ground Beef
  • 400g Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 3 heaping Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 200g Honey
  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Tuna Extract (or fish sauce)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, heat a pan over medium heat. Add the ground beef and stir-fry until the pink color disappears. Once the beef is partially cooked, add 2 Tbsp of soy sauce and 2 Tbsp of tuna extract (or fish sauce) and continue to stir-fry for seasoning.

Step 1

Step 2

When the beef is almost fully cooked, add the generous amount of minced garlic. Stir-fry with the beef for about 1-2 more minutes, allowing the garlic’s aroma to fully develop.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the garlic is fragrant and nicely sautéed, add the 400g of gochujang. Stir well to combine the gochujang with the beef, ensuring there are no clumps.

Step 3

Step 4

Using a spatula, press down and stir-fry the mixture to thoroughly combine the beef and gochujang. This step builds the fundamental flavor of the yak gochujang. Continue cooking until all ingredients are well integrated.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, add 200g of honey to enhance the sweetness and flavor. (You can adjust the amount of honey to your preference.) Continue stir-frying for about 7 minutes, allowing the honey to melt and blend with the other ingredients. As you stir-fry, the yak gochujang will thicken and develop a glossy sheen. You’ll know it’s ready when it has a chewy, sticky consistency when you test a small bit with a chopstick.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for a nutty finish. Your delicious yak gochujang is now complete! It’s great to enjoy immediately, or you can let it cool completely, store it in an airtight container, and refrigerate for longer keeping.
