Recipe Info

  • Category : Rice / Porridge / Rice cake
  • Ingredient Category : Beef
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • 200g thinly sliced beef for bulgogi
  • 1/2 onion
  • 3 stalks green onion

Bulgogi Marinade

  • 4 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 6 Tbsp pear juice or water (using pear juice enhances sweetness and flavor!)
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide or corn syrup (for shine and sweetness control)
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables for the rice bowl. Slice the onion thinly and cut the green onions into large pieces, about 5cm long. Feel free to adjust the amount of vegetables to your liking! Sautéing the onions brings out their sweetness, and the green onions add a fragrant aroma as they cook.

Step 1

Step 2

Gently press the thinly sliced beef with a paper towel to remove any excess blood. Removing the blood helps eliminate any gamey odor and allows the marinade to penetrate the meat better.

Step 2

Step 3

In a large bowl, combine the drained beef with all the bulgogi marinade ingredients (soy sauce, pear juice/water, minced garlic, oligosaccharide/corn syrup, sesame oil). Gently mix and massage the ingredients into the beef with your hands. It’s important to ensure the marinade is evenly distributed. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes for best flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they become translucent. Sautéing the onions first will release their natural sweetness, enhancing the overall flavor of the bulgogi rice bowl.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the onions are tender, add the marinated beef to the pan. Use chopsticks to gently separate the pieces of meat as you stir-fry. This prevents the beef from clumping together. Cooking over medium heat, rather than high heat, will ensure the beef cooks evenly without burning.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, add the large pieces of green onion and stir-fry them with the beef. Cook just until the green onions slightly soften. The dish is ready once the beef is fully cooked. TIP: Be careful not to overcook the beef, as it can become tough. Serve generously over warm rice for a delicious meal!
