Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Introducing our ‘Beef Jjajangbap’, a nutritious and beloved dish for the whole family. The combination of generous beef and crisp vegetables creates an exceptional flavor and texture.
Step 2
First, prepare the aromatic leeks that will enhance the savory depth of the Jjajang sauce. Finely chop the white part of the leek into about 0.5cm pieces, ready for making leek oil. Using only the white part helps reduce bitterness and maximizes the leek’s fragrance.
Step 3
Peel and dice the onion and potato into approximately 1.5cm cubes, ensuring they are bite-sized and will blend well with the Jjajang sauce. Cutting vegetables into uniform sizes helps them cook evenly for a better taste.
Step 4
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a deep pan. Add the chopped white leek parts and sauté over medium-low heat until fragrant and lightly golden, creating leek oil. Once the leeks are fragrant, add the minced beef. Season lightly with salt and stir-fry over high heat until the beef is no longer pink, breaking up any clumps.
Step 5
When the beef is partially cooked, add the diced onion and potato. Stir-fry until the onion becomes translucent and the potato begins to soften slightly. Add enough water to just cover the ingredients, then cover the pan and simmer over medium heat until the potatoes are completely tender. You can check for doneness by piercing a potato with a fork; it should be easily mashable.
Step 6
Once the potatoes are fully cooked, stir in the store-bought black bean sauce. Start with about 5 tablespoons, then adjust the amount according to your preference for color and flavor intensity. Let it simmer gently after adding the sauce, ensuring everything is well combined.
Step 7
Now, let’s thicken the Jjajang sauce to the perfect consistency. Gradually add the cornstarch slurry (2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water), stirring continuously. Add it little by little, perhaps with a teaspoon, until you reach your desired thickness. Adding too much at once can make the sauce too stiff, so aim for a smooth, glossy consistency.
Step 8
Serve a generous portion of the prepared beef Jjajang sauce over fluffy, freshly cooked rice. Make sure there’s plenty of sauce to mix with the rice for every delicious bite.
Step 9
For a final touch, finely chop the fresh scallion and sprinkle it over the Jjajangbap. This not only makes the dish look appealing but also adds a fresh aroma and flavor.
Step 10
And there you have it – a delicious ‘Beef Jjajangbap’ that everyone will love! Enjoy this wonderful and satisfying meal right in your own home.
