Main Ingredients
- 1 block firm tofu
- 1 pack store-bought beef bone broth (500g)
- 1 king oyster mushroom
- 4 frozen dumplings (king dumplings recommended)
- A small bunch of chives
- 1/2 stalk green onion
- 1 hot pepper (e.g., Cheongyang pepper)
Seasoning
- 3 Tbsp salted shrimp (saeujeot)
- 1.5 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/3 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp perilla oil
- 3 Tbsp salted shrimp (saeujeot)
- 1.5 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/3 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp perilla oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Line the bottom of your hot pot with thinly sliced king oyster mushrooms. This adds flavor to the broth and provides a base for the tofu, which you can then arrange attractively on top.
Step 2
Arrange the 4 prepared king dumplings on top of the tofu, and pour in 1 pack (500g) of store-bought beef bone broth. Tip: To speed up cooking, let frozen dumplings sit at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes before you start. The dumplings I used were frozen, so I had to simmer them for a bit longer.
Step 3
Now, add all the seasoning ingredients to create the flavorful broth. Mix in 1.5 Tbsp gochugaru, 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1/3 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1 Tbsp perilla oil for added aroma. Tip: Since store-bought beef bone broth often contains seasoning, it’s recommended to taste and adjust the salted shrimp or omit it altogether. If the broth level seems low or the dumplings aren’t fully cooked, you can add a little water and continue simmering. I added extra water as needed since I was using frozen dumplings to ensure they cooked through.
Step 4
Once the dumplings are fully cooked, sprinkle in a pinch of black pepper to remove any gamey odors. Finally, garnish with fresh chives, diagonally sliced green onions, and thinly sliced hot peppers for a spicy kick. Your delicious Tofu and Dumpling Hot Pot is ready!
