Introducing a nutritious Tofu & Spam Inari Sushi recipe made with everyone’s favorite Spam and protein-rich tofu! Ingredients- 1 block Tofu
- 2/5 can Spam (approx. 200g)
- 1 packet ready-made Inari Sushi seasoning mix
- 1/2 Tbsp Sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, drain the tofu thoroughly using a sieve. Then, mash the tofu finely with your hands or a fork until there are no lumps. We will be drying out the moisture when we stir-fry it later.
Step 2
Remove the Spam from the can, slice it thinly, and then finely mince it on a cutting board. Mincing it into small pieces will help it blend well with the sushi filling.
Step 3
Heat a dry frying pan and add the mashed tofu. Stir-fry over medium-low heat. It’s important to cook until the moisture from the tofu evaporates and it becomes crumbly. This will give the tofu a pleasant texture and prevent the sushi from becoming mushy when mixed with rice.
Step 4
Wipe the pan used for the tofu with a paper towel or use a separate pan. Add the minced Spam and stir-fry over medium heat until golden brown. The Spam’s rendered fat will add a delicious savory flavor.
Step 5
Drain the liquid (seasoning syrup) from the Inari pockets by placing them on a sieve and discarding the liquid. This will help maintain the fresh taste without altering the original flavor of the pockets.
Step 6
In a large bowl, combine the stir-fried tofu, Spam, and the seasoning mix (rice vinegar seasoning) and sauce included in the Inari Sushi packet.
Step 7
Add half a tablespoon of sesame oil for a nutty aroma and rich flavor.
Step 8
Mix everything thoroughly using a spatula or spoon. The key is to mix evenly, ensuring the tofu and Spam are well combined with the seasoning and don’t clump together.
Step 9
Now, carefully fill each Inari pocket with the stir-fried tofu and Spam mixture, pressing it down firmly with a spoon. Filling them generously will ensure a burst of flavor with every bite.
