Ingredients
  • 8 Surimi sticks
  • 1 can Tuna (drained)
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 Tbsp Canned corn
  • 1/5 Red bell pepper (finely diced)
  • 1 Scallion (finely chopped)
  • 2 Pinches Salt
  • A pinch of Black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, drain the oil thoroughly from the tuna. In a bowl, combine the drained tuna, finely diced red bell pepper, 2 eggs, 2 pinches of salt, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix everything well to create the filling batter for your surimi pancakes.

Step 2

Finely chop the scallion. (If you have green onions or chives, they can be used as a substitute for scallions to add a lovely flavor and color.)

Step 3

Slice each surimi stick lengthwise in half. Gently open the cut side of each surimi half to form a heart shape. Secure the shape by inserting a toothpick through the surimi. The toothpick will help maintain the heart form while cooking and should be removed before serving.

Step 4

Preheat a frying pan over low heat and add a generous amount of vegetable oil. Carefully place the heart-shaped surimi sticks into the hot oil. Cooking over low heat is crucial to ensure the surimi cooks through without burning.

Step 5

Gently spoon the prepared egg and tuna mixture into the hollow of each heart-shaped surimi. Be careful not to overfill, as the batter might spill out during cooking. Aim to fill about 80% of the space to keep the shape neat.

Step 6

Sprinkle the finely chopped scallions over the top of the batter in each heart shape. This adds a fresh aroma and a touch of color. You can also add finely diced red bell pepper here for extra color.

Step 7

Cook the pancakes over low heat until the bottom is golden brown and set. Carefully flip them over and cook the other side until it is also golden brown and the pancake is cooked through. You’ll have beautiful, golden heart-shaped surimi pancakes!

Step 8

Before serving, carefully remove all the toothpicks from the cooked heart-shaped surimi pancakes. This step ensures a clean presentation, allowing your lovely heart-shaped pancakes to shine on the plate.
