First, prepare the whole wheat bread slices, sausages, and the egg for your hot dogs. Having all your ingredients ready makes the cooking process much smoother.

Carefully trim off the crusts from the whole wheat bread slices using a knife. Then, using a rolling pin or the side of a clean bottle, flatten the bread slices. This step is crucial to prevent the bread from tearing when you roll it around the sausage, ensuring a neat finish.

Crack the egg into a wide, shallow bowl. Whisk it thoroughly with a fork or whisk until the egg whites and yolks are well combined and the stringy bits are broken down. Ensure the egg mixture is smooth for an even coating.

Dip each flattened bread slice into the beaten egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated. Let the bread soak in the egg for about 30 seconds per side. This will help create a wonderfully moist and soft texture once baked.
