I’ve been interested in tofu recipes, and I recently came across one on Instagram that inspired me to quickly make these tofu tuna onigiri. They’re a fantastic, lighter alternative for a satisfying meal or snack.
Main Ingredients- 550g Tofu (about 1.5 blocks, water squeezed out)
- 85g Canned Tuna (oil drained)
- 6 slices Cheddar Cheese
- 6 Perilla Leaves (깻잎)
- 30g Cabbage (thinly shredded)
- 1.5 sheets Gimbap Seaweed
- 150g Crab Sticks (shredded)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp Salt
- 2 Tbsp Perilla Oil (들기름)
- 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp Salt
- 2 Tbsp Perilla Oil (들기름)
- 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, squeeze out as much water as possible from the tofu. Then, heat 2 Tbsp of perilla oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add 1 Tbsp of salt and stir-fry the tofu until lightly golden. As you stir, mash the tofu for a softer texture. Let the cooked tofu cool slightly.
Step 2
Prepare 1.5 sheets of gimbap seaweed and cut them diagonally in half. Thinly shred the cabbage.
Step 3
Cut 2 slices of cheddar cheese to fit the shape of the gimbap seaweed, forming a triangular shape. Gently press them onto the seaweed to help them stick.
Step 4
Wash and dry 2 perilla leaves. Overlap them slightly and place them on top of the prepared gimbap seaweed.
Step 5
Shape the cooled stir-fried tofu into a triangle form and place it on top of the perilla leaves. Be careful not to press too hard while shaping it.
Step 6
In a bowl, combine the finely shredded crab sticks and the drained tuna. Add 2 Tbsp of mayonnaise and mix well to create the filling.
Step 7
Generously spoon the tuna and crab stick filling onto the tofu. Top with the thinly shredded cabbage.
Step 8
Carefully wrap the seaweed around the filling and tofu to form the onigiri shape. You’ve now completed your healthy and delicious Tofu Tuna Onigiri!
