- 1 pinch of Salt
- A little Seaweed (seasoned or plain)
- 1.5 bowls of warm Cooked Rice (approx. 300g)
- 1 swirl of Sesame Oil (approx. 1/2 tsp)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, slice the ham into bite-sized pieces, about 1cm thick, suitable for children. To remove the ham’s distinct saltiness and excess fat, lightly blanch it in boiling water for about 30 seconds. After draining the water, heat a pan with a little cooking oil over medium heat and pan-fry the ham slices until golden brown on both sides to enhance their flavor. Once cooked, place the ham on paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
Step 2
The delicious aroma from the frying ham is already filling the air~ I can already imagine how much your child will love this! 😊
Step 3
Now it’s time to prepare the eggs. Crack the 2 eggs into a bowl, add a pinch of salt, and whisk them well to break the egg whites. Pour the beaten eggs into a heated pan and stir with chopsticks to create fluffy scrambled eggs. Avoid overcooking to maintain a soft texture.
Step 4
In a large bowl, place 1.5 bowls of warm cooked rice. Add the prepared scrambled eggs. Wash the perilla leaves thoroughly, pat them dry, and thinly slice them into shreds before adding them to the bowl. Mix everything together thoroughly with a spatula or spoon, as if stir-frying, ensuring the rice, eggs, and perilla leaves are well combined. (It’s best to mix when the rice is still warm so the seasonings blend well and the perilla leaves retain their fragrance.)
Step 5
Finally, drizzle a swirl of sesame oil for a nutty aroma and mix one last time. This completes the rice ball filling.
Step 6
Form the rice mixture into round, bite-sized rice balls. Place a piece of the pan-fried ham on top of each rice ball. Then, cut the seaweed into thin strips and wrap them around the rice balls like a ribbon. Your delightful Ham-Wrapped Egg Rice Balls are now ready! Their cute appearance is sure to pique your child’s interest.
