Ham Jerky: A Simple Snack for Special Occasions

Sharing a recipe for ham jerky that was featured on the TV show ‘Altoran’. I was curious about the texture and decided to try it, and it turned out surprisingly good, so I wanted to share! It’s perfect as a simple, quick dried snack. Highly recommended!

  • Cooking : Grilled / Roasted

  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 200g Press Ham
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional, for enhanced flavor)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, place the entire 200g block of press ham into boiling water and blanch for about 2-3 minutes. This step helps to lightly remove excess fat from the ham and wash away any impurities, resulting in a cleaner taste.

Step 1

Step 2

Remove the blanched ham and drain it thoroughly using a sieve. You can also pat it dry with paper towels.

Step 2

Step 3

Cut the drained ham into 4 equal pieces, approximately 1-1.5cm thick. It’s important to maintain a moderate thickness, as cutting it too thin might cause it to break apart during cooking.

Step 3

Step 4

Next, heat a pan over medium heat. There’s no need to add any oil. Place the cut ham pieces onto the heated pan.

Step 4

Step 5

While keeping an eye on the heat to prevent burning, pan-fry the ham until it’s golden brown and slightly crispy on both sides. Continue cooking until it develops an appetizing deep brown color, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Step 5

Step 6

Transfer the cooked ham to paper towels to absorb any excess oil. This will make your ham jerky more delicate and less greasy.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the excess oil is removed, thinly slice the ham lengthwise into three pieces, about 0.5cm thick. Slicing it thinly like this is key to achieving that chewy jerky texture.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, lightly sprinkle red pepper flakes over the thinly sliced ham according to your preference. Gently toss the ham to ensure the flakes are evenly distributed. If you enjoy a bit of spice, feel free to add a little more. Your delicious ham jerky is now ready to enjoy!
