  • A pinch of black pepper
  • Salt or soy sauce to taste

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Haesinttang ingredients are easily available online and can be delivered fresh. Ensuring the quality and freshness of seafood like octopus, abalone, clams, and shrimp is crucial, so it’s recommended to order from a reputable source.

Step 1

Step 2

To remove the octopus’s slimy mucus and any impurities, sprinkle it with 2 tablespoons of flour and rub it thoroughly with your hands. This process cleans the octopus effectively. Rinse it under running water. Similarly, scrub the abalones and whiteleg shrimp with a brush or clean cloth to wash them thoroughly.

Step 2

Step 3

Wash the clams by rubbing them together to remove any sand or debris. For the chicken, trim excess fat from the tail and neck area. Thoroughly clean out any internal giblets or residue, rinsing until the water runs clear.

Step 3

Step 4

In a large pot, place the prepared chicken. Add the Samgyetang herbal packet, whole garlic cloves, and dried red dates. Pour in enough water to cover the chicken. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat, then reduce to medium heat and simmer gently.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the chicken has simmered and the broth has begun to develop flavor (about 15-20 minutes), add the prepared abalones. Adding abalone early helps keep them tender and prevents them from becoming tough.

Step 5

Step 6

After the abalone has cooked slightly, add the clams and shrimp. Pour in 4 tablespoons of cooking sake (mirin or soju) to eliminate any fishy odors and enhance the flavor. Continue to simmer gently for about 40-50 minutes until all ingredients are cooked through.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, add the octopus and cook for just 5-10 more minutes. The octopus is done when it turns a vibrant red color. Stir in the bunch of garlic chives. Season the broth with salt or soy sauce to your liking, and add a pinch of black pepper. Your delicious and hearty Haesinttang is ready to be enjoyed!

Step 7

Step 8

This Haesinttang offers a feast for the eyes, the joy of picking out your favorite ingredients, and a deeply savory, refreshing broth! The combination of seafood and chicken creates an incredibly delicious soup. I added some Cheongyang peppers for a touch of heat, and it was absolutely perfect with a drink! This dish is ideal for boosting your health or serving as an impressive meal for guests.
