- 2 pinches black pepper (for boiling potatoes)
- A splash of warm milk (to adjust consistency)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the potatoes that will accompany your steak. Wash the potatoes thoroughly, cut them in half, and boil them in plenty of water with 2 pinches of coarse salt for 15-20 minutes, or until they are tender enough to be easily pierced with a fork. This ensures they are soft enough for mashing.
Step 2
Peel the onion and cut it into 8 wedges. These will be roasted alongside the steak, allowing their natural sweetness to concentrate as they cook.
Step 3
Remove the seeds from the bell pepper and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Using different colored bell peppers will make your dish visually appealing.
Step 4
Trim the tough ends off the shiitake mushrooms and cut them into quarters. Their rich, earthy flavor pairs wonderfully with steak.
Step 5
Slice the king oyster mushrooms into thick rounds, about 2-3 cm (about 1 inch) thick. Their satisfying chewy texture makes them a great addition.
Step 6
Now, for the star of the show: the sirloin steak. Pat the steak dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Drizzle generously with olive oil, then season both sides with coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper, ensuring an even coating.
Step 7
Drain the boiled potatoes thoroughly in a colander. Mashing them while they are still hot will yield the smoothest, creamiest mashed potatoes.
Step 8
Add warm milk to the hot mashed potatoes a little at a time, mashing as you go, until you reach your desired consistency. Season with 2 pinches of salt and 2 pinches of pepper. You’ll have perfectly smooth and savory mashed potatoes!
Step 9
Time to cook the steak! Heat a pan over medium-high heat with a little oil. Place the seasoned steak in the pan and sear each side for about 30 seconds, repeating this process about 5 times. The goal is to achieve a beautiful crust while keeping the inside juicy. For the best result, aim for an internal temperature of around 54-56°C (130-133°F) for medium-rare, using a meat thermometer. Avoid overcrowding the pan and resist the urge to flip the steak too often, as this can cause juices to escape.
Step 10
Using the same pan with the steak drippings, add the shrimp (shell-on). Sear them for 1-2 minutes per side until they turn pink and slightly charred. Shrimp cooked in the flavorful steak pan are exceptionally delicious!
Step 11
Add the prepared vegetables (onion, bell pepper, shiitake mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms) to the pan, utilizing the remaining steak juices and oil. Sauté until the vegetables are nicely browned and tender, then season lightly with salt and pepper.
Step 12
Once cooked, let the steak rest for about 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, ensuring a tender and moist result. Slice the steak to your preferred thickness and arrange it on a plate with the mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables.
Step 13
Finally, sprinkle a little coarse salt over the freshly sliced steak to enhance its flavor. You can also add fresh herbs or a pat of butter for extra richness.
Step 14
Your impressive steak dinner, worthy of any restaurant, is now complete! Enjoy your culinary masterpiece.
