This is an incredibly simple recipe to transform the go-to instant meal for solo dwellers, 3-minute jjajang, into a magnificent jjajang rice bowl. We’re adding generous ingredients that are often lacking in store-bought jjajang, allowing you to savor a deep flavor and hearty texture as if you were at a professional restaurant. With just a little extra effort, ordinary jjajang becomes a special meal. It’s so easy to follow, even cooking beginners can make it without worry!

Main Ingredients

  • 4 packs of 3-minute Jjajang
  • 1 stalk of green onion
  • 2 onions
  • 150g pork loin
  • A bit of frozen mixed seafood
  • Generous amount of cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables. Finely chop the green onion. Peel the onions and slice them into 1cm thick strips or dice them into bite-sized pieces. This will give them a better texture when cooked.

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over high heat. Add the prepared onions, green onions, and 1 Tbsp of minced garlic. Stir-fry vigorously for about 2 minutes until fragrant. The onions should start to turn translucent and release their sweetness.

Once the vegetables are partially cooked, add the diced pork loin and thawed mixed seafood to the pan. Stir-fry together until the pork turns opaque on the outside.

To help the pork and seafood cook evenly and remove any gamey odors, add 1 Tbsp of cooking wine. Sprinkle in a pinch of black pepper for extra flavor. Continue to stir-fry until all ingredients are well combined.

When the ingredients are sufficiently cooked, open the 4 packs of 3-minute jjajang and pour them into the pan. Stir to thoroughly mix the jjajang sauce with the sautéed ingredients.

As the jjajang sauce begins to bubble and simmer with the ingredients, add 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce for an extra boost of umami. Drizzle in a little chili oil. Simmer for another moment until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency. Your gourmet jjajang rice bowl, with all the delicious ingredients perfectly blended, is now ready! Serve generously over warm rice and enjoy!
