- 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil or Sesame Oil
- 1 bowl of Rice (approx. 200g)
- 1/2 can Tuna (drained, approx. 100g)
- 1 Egg (optional, for topping)
- Any vegetables you like (onion, carrot, bell pepper, etc.) (optional)
Seasoning- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sugar (balances the sourness of kimchi and adds sweetness)
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to your preference)
- 1 pinch of Salt (for final seasoning adjustment)
- 1 pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds (for nutty aroma)
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sugar (balances the sourness of kimchi and adds sweetness)
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to your preference)
- 1 pinch of Salt (for final seasoning adjustment)
- 1 pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds (for nutty aroma)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Heat a deep pan or wok over medium-low heat and add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil or sesame oil. If you have vegetables prepared, add them first and sauté for 1 minute until translucent to release their aroma. Then, add the chopped kimchi, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of gochugaru. Stir-fry over medium-low heat for about 3 minutes until the kimchi softens and the seasoning is evenly coated. Controlling the heat is crucial here to prevent burning and achieve a delicious base for the fried rice.
Step 2
Add the drained tuna (half a can) and stir-fry over medium-low heat for about 2 minutes, allowing it to meld with the kimchi seasoning. Sautéing the tuna enhances its savory flavor and adds depth to the fried rice.
Step 3
Add one bowl of warm rice. Using a spatula, stir-fry over medium-low heat until the rice grains are separated and well combined with the other ingredients. It’s important to cook the rice until each grain is coated with oil and becomes fluffy.
Step 4
Turn up the heat to high. Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and a pinch of salt to adjust the seasoning. Stir-frying quickly over high heat ensures the rice grains remain distinct and the seasoning doesn’t burn, while still developing a rich flavor. Finally, sprinkle a pinch of toasted sesame seeds for extra nuttiness and turn off the heat. For an even more delicious meal, consider topping with a fried egg or shredded seaweed.
