Recipe Info

  • Category : Soup / Broth
  • Ingredient Category : Seafood
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : 4 servings
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Ingredients

  • Dried Shrimp 81g (deveined and tail removed)
  • Dried Seaweed 10g
  • 500ml Clear Water
  • 1 Tbsp Low-Sodium Soy Sauce (for babies)
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, soak the dried seaweed (10g) in cold water for about 10 minutes until fully rehydrated. Rinse the softened seaweed thoroughly and chop it into small, bite-sized pieces suitable for your baby. Next, prepare the shrimp (81g). Remove the heads, tails, and the tough outer shells. Carefully devein the shrimp by making a shallow cut along the back and removing the dark intestinal tract. Chop the deveined shrimp into manageable pieces for your baby.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s prepare the pot. Place a pot over medium-low heat and add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. The sesame oil will gently infuse its aroma and help the ingredients sauté without burning, ensuring a tender texture.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the pot is adequately warm, add the finely chopped seaweed and the prepared shrimp. Maintain medium-low heat and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, or until the shrimp turns from translucent to an opaque pinkish color. This sautéing step helps to deepen the natural sweetness and umami flavor of the shrimp.

Step 3

Step 4

After sautéing the shrimp and seaweed, carefully pour in 500ml of clear water. Once the water is added, turn the heat up to high and bring the soup to a boil. As soon as it starts boiling vigorously, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer gently. This simmering process allows the flavors from the ingredients to meld beautifully into the broth.

Step 4

Step 5

Taste the broth and, if needed, add 1 tablespoon of low-sodium soy sauce for seasoning. However, for babies, the natural salinity from the seaweed and shrimp is often enough, so you might not need any added salt, or just a tiny amount for a 12-month-old. Continue to simmer on medium-low heat for at least 10 minutes, or until the broth becomes rich and flavorful. Seaweed soup generally tastes better the longer it simmers. Allow the soup to cool slightly before serving it warm to your baby. Ensure it’s a safe temperature for consumption.
