Ingredients- 150g Shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 400g Tteokbokki rice cakes
- 10 cloves Garlic, thinly sliced
- 1/2 stalk Green onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 Tbsp Sugar
- Basil powder (optional)
- 1 Tbsp Toasted sesame seeds
- 2 pinches Salt
- Pinch of Black pepper
- 70ml Olive oil
- Red pepper flakes (optional, for a hint of spice)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thinly slice the garlic cloves. Slice the green onion into bite-sized pieces.
Step 2
For enhanced nutty flavor, lightly grind the toasted sesame seeds using a mortar and pestle or a grinder.
Step 3
Heat the olive oil in a wide pan over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and sauté until it turns a beautiful golden brown and becomes fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic, as this will affect the flavor. Let the garlic’s aroma infuse into the oil.
Step 4
Once the garlic is golden, add the shrimp to the pan and sauté until they turn pink and are cooked through.
Step 5
When the shrimp have changed color, season the mixture with 2 pinches of salt, a pinch of black pepper, and 1/2 tablespoon of sugar. If you like a little heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
Step 6
Stir everything together to ensure the seasonings are well combined with the shrimp and garlic. Add the tteokbokki rice cakes and stir-fry until they are coated in the flavorful oil and begin to soften. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Step 7
When the rice cakes are tender and have absorbed the delicious flavors, add the sliced green onions. Stir in the basil powder and ground toasted sesame seeds. Give it a final toss, and your savory Garlic Oil Tteokbokki is ready to be enjoyed hot!
