Hotcake Batter Ingredients- 1 1/2 cups hotcake mix
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 3 Tbsp strawberry jam
Optional Topping Ingredients- Mandarin oranges (or strawberries, kiwi, your favorite fruit)
- 1 Tbsp cocoa powder
- Whipped cream (optional)
- Mandarin oranges (or strawberries, kiwi, your favorite fruit)
- 1 Tbsp cocoa powder
- Whipped cream (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the hotcake batter. In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of hotcake mix and 1 egg.
Step 2
Gently break the egg yolk with a fork or whisk.
Step 3
Mix the egg and hotcake mix lightly until just combined, without overmixing. Overmixing can make the hotcakes tough, so be mindful of this.
Step 4
Once the egg is partially mixed with the hotcake mix, gradually pour in 2/3 cup of milk. Adding the milk little by little while mixing helps create a smoother batter.
Step 5
Continue mixing the batter with the milk until it’s smooth and free of lumps. Using a whisk will make it easier to achieve a lump-free consistency.
Step 6
Now, let’s prepare the fruit for topping. The picture shows a citrus fruit, but any fresh fruit you have at home will be wonderful – strawberries, kiwi, or bananas are excellent choices. Strawberries and kiwi, in particular, pair beautifully with hotcakes.
Step 7
If the fruit has peels, wash them thoroughly and remove the peels.
Step 8
Cut the fruit into bite-sized pieces. For strawberries, slice them in half or quarters. If using mandarin oranges, peel them and separate the segments.
Step 9
It’s time to cook the hotcakes. Heat a non-stick frying pan over ‘very low heat’. Cooking on high heat will burn the outside before the inside is cooked, so maintaining low heat is crucial.
Step 10
Once the pan is adequately heated, pour the hotcake batter to your desired size. When you see bubbles forming on the surface and the edges start to darken, it’s time to flip.
Step 11
To check if the hotcake is cooked after flipping, gently try to slide it on the pan. If it moves smoothly without any sticking, it’s perfectly cooked through.
Step 12
Place the well-cooked hotcake on a plate. While it’s still warm, spread 3 tablespoons of strawberry jam evenly over the surface. The sweet jam will enhance the hotcake’s flavor.
Step 13
Arrange the prepared fresh fruit beautifully on top of the jam. The colorful fruit not only looks appealing but also adds a wonderful taste.
Step 14
Finally, according to your preference, you can lightly sprinkle 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder or serve with a dollop of whipped cream for an even richer taste experience.
Step 15
Your fresh and delicious fruity hotcakes are ready! They taste best when served warm.
