Main Ingredients
  • 65g Chives
  • 45g Onion (about 1/4 medium onion)
  • 28g Carrot (about 1/4 medium carrot)

Chive Salad Dressing
  • 0.3 Tbsp Minced Garlic (approx. 1/2 tsp)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Soy Sauce (regular)
  • 0.25 Tbsp Sugar (approx. 1/2 tsp)
  • 0.5 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • Pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

It’s crucial to wash fresh chives thoroughly. Fill a large bowl with enough water to submerge the chives. Gently hold the chives between your palms and wash them by lightly sweeping downwards along the leaves. Also, grasp the top of the chives with one hand and gently shake the bottom part in the water, rinsing 3-4 times with fresh water. After washing, drain them well by shaking off excess water.

Step 2

Trim off the root ends of the washed chives. Then, cut them into manageable pieces about 4cm long.

Step 3

Thinly julienne the onion and carrot. Aim for a thickness of about 2-3mm so they blend well with the chives’ texture. Measure out 0.3 Tbsp of minced garlic for the dressing.

Step 4

Now, let’s make the delicious chive salad dressing. Start by adding 0.25 Tbsp of sugar for a touch of sweetness.

Step 5

Add 1.5 Tbsp of soy sauce, the foundation of savory flavor.

Step 6

Pour in 0.5 Tbsp of sesame oil for a rich, nutty aroma.

Step 7

Add the previously measured 0.3 Tbsp of minced garlic and a pinch of toasted sesame seeds.

Step 8

Once all dressing ingredients are combined in the bowl, tilt the bowl slightly and use a spoon to mix the dressing well. Taste it and if you prefer a tangier flavor, feel free to add 1 Tbsp of vinegar. For a hint of spiciness, you can also mix in 0.5 Tbsp of chili flakes according to your preference.

Step 9

With the flavorful dressing ready, add all the prepared chives, julienned carrots, and onions directly onto the dressing.

Step 10

It’s best to wear disposable gloves for mixing. It’s important to preserve the chives’ crispness, so gently toss the vegetables with the dressing, being careful not to overmix and make the chives soggy.

Step 11

After mixing, taste the salad. If it feels a bit bland, add a tiny pinch of salt and gently toss again to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Step 12

Finally, sprinkle a generous amount of toasted sesame seeds on top for a beautiful finish. Your delicious and crisp chive salad recipe is now complete! Enjoy your meal.
