  • 2 handfuls of mozzarella cheese (approx. 80g)
  • 1 egg (for Croque Madame)

Creamy Béchamel Sauce

  • 1 Tbsp butter (approx. 15g)
  • 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour (approx. 15g)
  • 200ml milk
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • A dash of pepper

Cooking Instructions

Today, we’ll be making a delightful French-style toast, the Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame, using just ham and cheese. It’s simple yet incredibly delicious!

★ Making the Creamy Béchamel Sauce: In a saucepan, melt 1 Tbsp of butter over low heat. Add 1 Tbsp of flour and whisk constantly to form a smooth white roux. Cook for about 1-2 minutes. Gradually pour in 200ml of milk (cold or room temperature is fine), whisking vigorously to prevent lumps. Bring to a simmer and continue whisking until the sauce thickens to a smooth, creamy consistency, coating the back of a spoon. Season with a pinch of salt and a dash of pepper. The sauce should be thick but pourable.

Now, let’s prepare the bread. Spread a generous layer of the freshly made béchamel sauce onto one side of each slice of bread using a spoon or a pastry brush. This sauce will add a wonderful richness and moisture to the sandwich.
