Fragrant Coffee-Infused Beverage
Create a Refreshing Refrigerator Drink Using Leftover Coffee Grounds
Even after brewing and enjoying coffee from premium beans, the remaining grounds retain a wonderful aroma and beneficial properties. This recipe shows you how to repurpose these grounds into a refreshing beverage, similar to barley tea, perfect for keeping in the refrigerator. I’m writing this down so I don’t forget this clever way to use them!
Ingredients- Strained coffee grounds 3 tsp
- Room temperature water 500ml
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Typically, I use 1.5 teaspoons of coffee grounds to brew a cup of coffee. After brewing it twice, I end up with about 3 teaspoons of strained coffee grounds. This amount is perfect for making a 500ml bottle of this delightful coffee tea.
Step 2
Instead of using hot water like for traditional brewing, gently pour room temperature water over the coffee grounds in the filter. Let it steep, allowing the water to extract the remaining flavors and aromas.
Step 3
The resulting coffee liquid will have a subtle flavor profile, free from the bitterness of regular coffee, yet still wonderfully aromatic. It’s a delightful way to savor the essence of the beans.
Step 4
Pour room temperature water over the same coffee grounds again and let it steep once more. This second infusion will further extract any remaining flavor and fragrance.
Step 5
As you continue to pour water and steep, you’ll notice the color of the coffee tea gradually becoming lighter. Using up to 500ml of water seems to be the sweet spot for achieving a balanced flavor and aroma that isn’t too strong or too weak.
Step 6
Pour the finished 500ml beverage into a clean bottle and store it in the refrigerator. It’s a perfect thirst quencher on a hot summer day or a soothing drink after a meal. This method allows you to enjoy the quality of good coffee grounds for longer, preventing waste.
