For the Steak
- Steak kit (300g steak)
- 2 Tbsp Olive oil
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp Basil powder
- 1 tsp Garlic herb salt or salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Unpack your steak kit. It typically includes fresh garnish vegetables like cherry tomatoes, whole garlic cloves, and green beans, along with a delicious steak sauce. Take a moment to identify all the components.
Step 2
Prepare the steak: Pat the steak dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of garlic herb salt (or regular salt), and 1 teaspoon of basil powder. Rub this mixture evenly over all sides of the steak. Gently massage it into the meat to ensure even seasoning. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
Step 3
Heat the pan and melt butter: Place a skillet over medium-high heat and let it get thoroughly hot. Once hot, add a knob of butter (or the amount specified in your kit) and allow it to melt. Wait until the butter begins to foam and turns a light golden brown, being careful not to let it burn.
Step 4
Sear the steak (Part 1): Carefully place the marinated steak into the hot pan. Sear each side for about 2-3 minutes over high heat until a beautiful golden-brown crust forms. This step is crucial for developing flavor. You can also add the whole garlic cloves from the kit to the pan alongside the steak to cook and infuse their aroma.
Step 5
Boost the flavor! Flaming technique (Optional): For an even more intense smoky flavor, you can carefully tilt the pan and use a spoon to baste the steak with the melted butter and pan juices (this is called ‘arroser’). Alternatively, for a dramatic touch, you can briefly lift the pan over the flame. Continue to cook, turning the steak occasionally, for a total of 4-6 minutes, depending on your desired level of doneness (rare, medium, or well-done). Aim for a wonderfully crisp exterior!
Step 6
Plate and serve: Once cooked, remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a cutting board, loosely tented with aluminum foil, for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring a tender and moist steak. Arrange the steak on a plate along with the sautéed vegetables (tomatoes, green beans) cooked in butter and pan drippings. Add crispy garlic chips, and serve with a Spanish-style potato pancake (or any side of your choice, like a salad). Drizzle with the steak sauce provided in the kit. Your spectacular homemade steak dinner is ready to be enjoyed!
