Flavorful Shrimp Ball Hot Pot
The Perfect Shrimp Ball Hot Pot: A Delicious Recipe Using Shrimp Balls for Various Dishes
The final dish in our series using shrimp ball mixture is a delightful Shrimp Ball Hot Pot. This recipe is inspired by ‘Mille-feuille Nabe,’ featuring a beautiful layered presentation. It’s a sophisticated and elegant dish, perfect for hosting guests or celebrating special occasions. Enjoy this refreshingly savory and clean-tasting hot pot. ^^
Main Ingredients- 10 prepared shrimp balls
- 10 sturdy napa cabbage leaves
- 20 fresh perilla leaves (깻잎)
- 1 handful of fresh bean sprouts
- 400-500ml clear anchovy-kelp broth (육수)
- 3 pinches of salt (for seasoning)
- 1 Tbsp fish sauce (for umami)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the shrimp balls, which are the star of this hot pot. (Refer to recipe @6879957 for shrimp preparation and storage, and recipe @6880002 for making shrimp broth and balls.)
Step 2
Layer the napa cabbage leaves and perilla leaves attractively. Start with a cabbage leaf, then place a perilla leaf on top, alternating to create layers. Tip. To ensure even thickness and a neat appearance, arrange the thicker stem parts of the cabbage leaves so they overlap slightly. Cut them lengthwise to fit the height of your pot. (I used a deep 21cm diameter earthenware pot.)
Step 3
Place the washed bean sprouts evenly on the bottom of the pot. Bean sprouts add a subtle sweetness to the broth and a pleasant crisp texture.
Step 4
Arrange the layered cabbage and perilla leaves around the edges of the pot, on top of the bean sprouts, creating a visually appealing border.
Step 5
Now, carefully place the 10 prepared shrimp balls in the center of the pot.
Step 6
Gently pour the 400-500ml of prepared broth over the ingredients in the pot. The broth should fill the pot so that the ingredients are mostly submerged but their tops are slightly visible. Once the broth comes to a boil over high heat, season it with 3 pinches of salt and 1 Tbsp of fish sauce to taste.
Step 7
Tip. The shrimp balls and vegetables cook very quickly, so avoid overcooking them, which can make them mushy and diminish the flavor. It’s best to reduce the heat or turn it off once the broth begins to gently bubble. Preserving the fresh flavors of the ingredients is key.
Step 8
And there you have it – a delicious Shrimp Ball Hot Pot is complete! Enjoy this hearty and satisfying meal!!
