Flavorful Salmon Steak with Lemon Dill Sauce

Salmon prices have really gone up, so I decided to make a salmon steak using cod (or a similar white fish)! The method is the same even if you use whole salmon. Enjoy a delicious and fancy home restaurant experience at your preference! This dish offers a wonderful combination of tender fish and a bright, herbaceous lemon dill sauce.

Fish Steak Ingredients

  • White fish fillet (e.g., Cod, Salmon) 700g
  • Extra virgin olive oil 10 Tbsp
  • Dried basil, to sprinkle
  • Black pepper, to taste

Bright Lemon Dill Sauce Ingredients

  • Fresh lemon juice 1 Tbsp
  • Heavy cream 100ml
  • Wholegrain mustard 0.5 Tbsp
  • Minced garlic 1 Tbsp
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Allulose 0.5 tsp (or substitute with corn syrup)
  • Fresh dill 1-2 sprigs (finely chopped)

Garnish Ingredients

  • Fresh dill 1 sprig
  • Capers
  • Basil flakes (optional)

Vegetable Side Ingredients

  • Asparagus 1 bunch

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Begin by heating a frying pan over medium-low heat and generously drizzling it with extra virgin olive oil. The olive oil adds flavor and helps prevent the fish from sticking and burning.

Step 1

Step 2

Carefully place the prepared white fish fillet into the heated frying pan. Ensure the pan isn’t too hot to avoid searing the fish too quickly.

Step 2

Step 3

While the fish is cooking, use another frying pan to lightly coat the asparagus with extra virgin olive oil. Pan-fry the asparagus, turning them occasionally, until they are nicely browned and tender-crisp. Once cooked, transfer the asparagus to a serving plate.

Step 3

Step 4

Gently flip the fish in the pan to cook the other side. Season the cooked side with a sprinkle of black pepper and dried basil for an aromatic touch. Once both sides are beautifully golden brown and cooked through, arrange the fish on top of the asparagus on the plate.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, let’s make the delicious sauce. In a separate frying pan, pour in the heavy cream (100ml) and warm it gently over low heat. Avoid boiling.

Step 5

Step 6

Add the fresh lemon juice (1 Tbsp) to the cream mixture. This will provide a bright, zesty flavor profile to the sauce.

Step 6

Step 7

Stir in the wholegrain mustard (0.5 Tbsp) for a subtle tang and pleasant texture. Whisk everything together until well combined.

Step 7

Step 8

Add the minced garlic (1 Tbsp) to the sauce. The garlic will infuse its aroma and add depth to the sauce’s flavor.

Step 8

Step 9

For a touch of sweetness, add allulose (0.5 tsp). If you prefer, you can substitute this with corn syrup or another liquid sweetener to your liking.

Step 9

Step 10

Finely chop the fresh dill sprigs and stir them into the sauce. Once the sauce begins to gently simmer, immediately remove it from the heat. Overcooking can make the sauce too thick.

Step 10

Step 11

Generously spoon the warm lemon dill sauce over the cooked fish steak and asparagus already arranged on your serving plate. For an extra touch of elegance and aroma, sprinkle some basil flakes on top (this step is optional).

Step 11

Step 12

Finally, place a sprig of fresh dill on top of the steak as a garnish and artfully arrange a few capers. Your magnificent homemade ‘Lemon Dill Salmon Steak’ is now ready to be enjoyed! Bon appétit!
