Main Ingredients
  • 2 servings of steamed white rice (warm)
  • 300g pork belly (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1/2 green onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 onion (thinly sliced)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • Fresh baby greens (lettuce or perilla leaves can be substituted)

Amazing Glaze Sauce
  • 6 Tbsp Mirin (or cooking sake)
  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 4 Tbsp Corn Syrup (or Oligosaccharide)
  • Pinch of black pepper (to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s start by preparing the ingredients! Wash and thinly slice the green onion. Peel and thinly slice the onion. Wash the baby greens thoroughly, drain them, and set aside. If you’re using lettuce or perilla leaves, wash them well too.

Step 2

Now it’s time to cook the pork belly. Place the 300g of pork belly in a pan over medium heat and cook until golden brown on both sides. Be careful not to burn the meat. Lightly dab away excess grease with a paper towel, then cut into bite-sized pieces for easier eating.

Step 3

Once the pork belly is partially cooked, add the sliced green onion and onion to the pan. Sauté them together; the aroma of the onion and green onion will enhance the pork belly’s flavor. Stir-fry until the vegetables are slightly softened.

Step 4

When the onion becomes translucent, it’s time to make the delicious glaze! Pour in the mirin (6 Tbsp), soy sauce (2 Tbsp), and corn syrup (4 Tbsp) into the pan. This ratio creates a wonderfully sweet and savory balance. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the sauce simmer until it coats the ingredients nicely.

Step 5

Once the pork belly and vegetables are well-coated and slightly reduced in the sauce, turn off the heat. Finally, sprinkle with a pinch of black pepper for an extra burst of flavor. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed – add more soy sauce if it’s too bland, or a little more corn syrup for sweetness.

Step 6

Place the warm steamed white rice into a bowl. Generously top with the soy-glazed pork belly and fresh baby greens for a vibrant and hearty presentation.

Step 7

And now, the crowning glory of this rice bowl! Gently place the fresh egg yolk on top of the pork belly. Your delicious Pork Belly Soy Glaze Rice Bowl is complete! Break the yolk and mix it with the rice for an even richer and smoother taste. Enjoy your meal!
